Tuesday, September 7th

It was a pleasure meeting all of the parents who came to school with their children last week and a joy getting to know each of your grade one students.  They have all grown up so much since last year when I watched them learn and grow in the Kindergarten!  I am looking forward to an exciting year with lots of new and interesting learning taking place.

Students and teachers in Grade One will be Inquiring about Changes in our World throughout the grade one year.  We will be asking questions such as:
How do we change?
Where can we observe change taking place?
What happens when we change letters in words?
How can we make and change patterns?
How can we change colours?
These are just a few examples of where our learning will focus over the next few months.

Last week, two sheets were sent home with your child on Friday.  One was explaining how to book a conference time during Patent - Teacher Conferences next Thursday and Friday.  The second blue sheet is to be filled out and brought with you during your conference time so that we can make the best use of our short time together.  If you are needing assistance booking your time, please feel free to call the school and we can assist you.

Your child's Homework Scribbler will be coming home today or tomorrow. Please refer to the letter included with the package explaining how you can assist your child with a few minutes of practice each day. We find that just a few minutes of parental support each evening makes a tremendous difference in a child's success with reading and wriitng by the end of the school year.

At this time, if you are dropping off your child at school, they should be dropped off and picked up each morning and afternoon outside the relocatable doors at the south end of the school. If your child is going home for lunch each day, please pick up and drop off at these doors as well. We do expect that each child have a pair of indoor shoes that can be left at school for the year. It is also helpful if your child's name is inside all items belonging to them as we sometimes have children with the same items.

Panorama Hills School is supporting the Terry Fox Fundraiser, 30th Anniversary Shoe Laces for $5.00 a pair.  Grade 4 students will be selling them at Lunchtime in the Grand Hall starting tomorrow.  If you do not wish to buy a pair of shoe laces but still want to donate, the grade 4's will be collecting a Toonie for Terry.  All proceeds go to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Have a great week and I look forward to meeting you later this week!
